AMERICAN IDOL RESULTS NIGHT, MARCH 24

It was a night full of surprises on "American Idol", and no one was more surprised than Casey Abrams.
The live results show started out with Motown legend Stevie Wonder making an unannounced guest performance and surprising judge Steven Tyler with a birthday song as the contestants gave him a cake, complete with lit candles.

Viewers were then surprised to learn that James Durbin, Paul McDonald and several other "Idol" contestants are big wrestling fans after viewing a fun wrestling package filmed inside the "Idol" mansion. WWE legend Hulk Hogan then surprised James and Paul onstage telling them they were in fact safe, but show host Ryan Seacrest was not. The bit ended when Hogan "punched out" Seacrest who then flew into a sea of surprised audience members.

Perhaps the most unexpected revelation for me, was my "Idol" favorite Stefano Langone winding up in the bottom three, along with Casey Abrams and Thia Megia. Casey and Thia were two of my predictions for the bottom three, but I never thought Stefano would be in the bottom this soon in the competition.
While "Hello" was not Stefano's best performance, I'm gonna blame the judges on this one because I think they were unfair to him during their critique Wednesday night. So he closes his eyes a bit when he sings -- so does Pia Toscano. I think they were just trying to give him some constructive criticism, which obviously backfired and worked against him when it came to the voting.

Minutes before the show ended, we learned Thia was safe, and then Stefano (whew!) and that Casey received the lowest number of votes and would be singing for his life.

The final surprise of the night came when Casey began singing his swan song and the judges suddenly stopped him about 30 seconds into the performance. Tyler broke the news that they would be using their one and only pass to save Casey and craziness ensued.

I'm glad Casey was saved because I do believe he is a great talent, and a unique individual who deserves another shot. But now, the judges' save is gone and from here on out, whoever receives the least amount of votes will definitely be going home. Thia should have been the one singing for her life, not Casey. I don't think she is quite ready for this level of competition.

If that wasn't enough surprises for you, here is one more -- next week will be a double elimination.
