18 SIMPLE WAYS TO CUT DOWN FAT


  • Read labels carefully.
  • Choose leaner cuts of meat, and trim away visible fat.
  • Stay away from pan-frying meats.
  • Use non-stick skillets and baking pans.
  • Serve smaller portions, or portions with a lower meat content.
  • Avoid red meats, stick to chicken, turkey or fish.
  • Avoid pre-breaded foods and commercial coating mixes.
  • When cooking sauces, brown the meat separately and drain the fat before adding ingredients.
  • Start using margarine that has a high ratio of polyunsaturated to saturated fats instead of butter.
  • Choose low-fat milk instead of whole milk.
  • Switch to low-fat cheeses.
  • Instead of ice cream, eat low-fat frozen yogurt, ice milk, or frozen fruit bars.
  • Avoid non-dairy creamers and whipped toppings.
  • Reduce egg yolks.
  • In cooking and baking, experiment with ingredients.
  • Watch the salad dressings. Dressings like blue cheese and creamy Italian are high in fat.
  • Avoid commercial baked goods, frostings, and mixes.
  • Whenever possible, stay away from frozen meals, TV dinners, packaged and canned foods.
